WannaCry is far and away the most severe malware attack so far in 2017, and the spread of this troubling ransomware is far from over. This unprecedented malware attack began sweeping the globe late last week, and security researchers estimated that nearly 57,000 computers in more than 150 countries were infected by the end of the day on Friday. While the spread of this terrifying ransomware was slowed on Saturday, it was hardly stopped. As of Monday morning, more than 200,000 systems around the world are believed to have been infected.
As you know NSK installs an agent on all computers we support. This agent includes multi layer protection against ransomware and other security threats including Webroot Antivirus, Malwarebytes antimalware software and Open DNS, a web filtration software designed to prevent your computer from accessing a compromised server on the internet. As of now no NSK customer has been infected and we feel confident that the actions above and the processes we use will keep your data safe.
Although the agent we use is very effective at preventing these attacks it is not perfect and not 100% guaranteed to stop infection. We still need to rely on our end users being aware of what looks suspicious and asking our helpdesk for assistance in cases where they are uncertain that a link or email is legitimate.
If you are unsure about a specific email or website link please don’t hesitate to send us an email before clicking on it.
Together we can ensure that this outbreak does not impact you in any way.
