VCE is the converged infrastructure business unit of EMC. It was developed as a joint project between EMC, VMware, and Cisco to build highly engineered and tested infrastructure foundations for the most business critical applications. There are three products in the lineup; Vblock, VxRack, and VxRail and all are developed to provide the highest level of availability and support. With a VCE solution, there is one point of contact for all support issues for hardware and software, EMC.

EMC World 2016 had a wealth of announcements to make last week. I wanted to highlight what I found to be most important for Focus customers.  Number one on my list was the release of the Unity Family of mid-range storage arrays. Unity will be the replacement for the VNXe and VNX, except for the VNX7800 and 8000 for now. The message is that it will be Simple, Modern, Flexible, and Affordable.

EMC World 2016 has come and gone and with it came new and exciting announcements surrounding the world’s most trusted protection storage.  Now starting with Data Domain OS version 6 customers will be able to utilize natively what’s being called Data Domain Cloud Tier as well as formally introducing the latest member of the Data Domain family, DD VE aka Data Domain Virtual Edition.  The message here is pretty straightforward; it’s Simple, Efficient, and Open!

Background

There has recently been a lot of development in the hyper-converged space. Traditionally the two big players in the space have been Nutanix and Simplivity. In the past year, we have seen entries from EMC, VMware, Cisco, and others. The idea behind hyper-converged is to provide the customer with a simple way to design and expand systems. Each vendor is trying to commoditize the infrastructure, thus making it easier for a customer to design and expand.

Virtual desktop hardware has come a long way in recent years with CPU cores being denser, having cheaper memory, and storage now able to respond within milliseconds. The only part hardware that has been lagging behind for Horizon View has been graphics. Don't get me wrong, great progress has been made since View 5.X, now that NVidia has created dedicated GPU’s. This is has changed the way we deploy Horizon View. These are the options you can have when deploying 3D in your Horizon View Environment
